Both are very nicely painted and make me keen to test my own painting abilities with these high-quality sculpts. I do question the paleness of Noxius, though. On the one hand, he's a condemned gladiator/slave from Rome, while Aquila is from Britain - I'd expect the skin tones to be reversed, from a purely "one gets more sun than the other" stand point. Then again, Noxius is a condemned slave who probably sees a fair bit of time confined in a cell somewhere, so pale kinda works for him...
Out of curiosity, would it be possible to ask your painter why he chose those tones for the skin?
I am the guy lucky enough to have a shot at painting these minis.
I basically used the artwork as reference for Noxius. I did consider giving him tanned flesh but blondes don't generally take to the sun to well. I've seen it first hand since my wife is a pale skinned blonde. During the summer she has a tendency to turn a reddish pink colour if she spends too much time outside. I didn't want to try and emulate that. I would have failed miserably.
Other than that it was a good opportunity to try out a pale flesh tone that isn't undead
