Are those the Petco resin aquarium pillars? I've almost pulled the trigger on those things about three different times...

I think the white with a very mild wash of gray or brown would be best. The white is too stark as it is, but the tan doesn't seem to fit with the gray stone walls either.

maybe try burn siena and some desert brown 1:2 then drybrush with 1:5 or something. a light wash of an idian yellow 1:2 to water and a later wash with some leviathan purple 1:1 with water. last i would recommand a really really light drybrush with desert brown and bone with 1:1 (really really light).

this would give a hell of colorthickness and nuances and is really simple in pulling off. (you can still tone it down with devian mud if its to bright).

2 Looks best, needs to be a bit dirty looking though whichever one you chose, those things have been battered by blades, hammers skulls and blood, not to mention sand! So they ought to look the part.

All of it is just looking fantastic regardless mate, keep up the good work! :P

As the 'fancy' pillars are to the Senatorial enclosure then it would say to me that they might be made of marble to emphasis the upper class element.

I'd go for the white myself with with some marble effects. This would balance well with the grey granite or sandstone of the rest of the block work.

Remember that power was always displayed in roman times, be it by elaborate mosaics, expensive looking materials (remember some of these elements were purely facades and not solid) or rich expensive colours.

soooo...its been a long time since i was here, but here is a little update....

the arena is now 90% painted and i will post some new pictures soon...i have to paint some miniatures (senator, his wife etc...) and then add some details and its done...!

In the meantime i was wondering about pits...do you use them?
maybe i add some to the ground floor and cover them with wooden planks if not used...

which you all the best for the new year
