So I recently got my Arena Rex stuff and started working on the Arena itself. It's on a 24"x24" sheet of insulation foam with some bricks for the walls. Between the walls is about 22.5" of distance, I think that should be fine for the game and helps get you right in the action.

It's not perfect by far, there are gaps between the bricks and it's not always level, but for about $15 it's not too shabby.

For more details about the build please visit my blog!

Looks nice.
Have you thought about gluing segments of the walls together with hot glue? With that method, it might be easier and quicker to build up and you can fill the voids inbetween the bricks.

I thought about it, but I was worried the hot glue gun may warp or melt the Styrofoam bricks, as they're very porous and could melt easily. Plus in my experience with my hot glue gun things tend to get... stringy.

I can fill in the gaps with putty or something similar, but really it's not something that's bothering me, and also I'm lazy.

Yeah, just recently watched a tutorial, where they had to use a temperature-adjustable hot glue gun to glue styrofoam. So better be careful rather than destroy the bricks.

I may combine this with the idea of using a plastic water heater pan as the "base" and having different floors you can put in it for different layouts...

I only had to use one, and not even the whole thing (although I'd say about 3/4 of it). I had purchased two just in case.

The bricks are super versatile in how you can use them, they're great!

Excellent. I planted the seed in my friend's mind and he has already picked some of the bricks up.

Awesome! I'm so glad I've inspired people to try it out, I didn't think I'd be an influence lol

Check out this Reddit thread of someone using my idea as well!

Hey, it's my crack at your Arena!

I got mine based and primed over the long weekend, but my wife made me keep it out of the house until the smell of spray paint wore off so I couldn't start painting yet. I'm going to go with a limestone color for the bricks, I hope to have that and the base knocked out by the end of the week!

Seriously though, good find with those construction bricks. Fast, easy, cheap, and it looks great!
