So in preparation for the wonderful figures that will winging their way to me as part of the Kickstarter campaign, I decided to throw together a little arena. :D

I started off in Autocad playing around with the idea of a circular then an elongated circle (similar to the chariot tracks) and ended up with this:

I've since started work on the gates, pillars and actual arena.

The pillars are DIY resin work based on a blank I made myself out of 1" polypipe, masking tape and foamboard scraps; gates are from coffee stirrers (bought a big bag from my local wholesaler) and the arena is constructed from 3" foam with an 6mm MDF base and some scraps of balsa and cheap filler( I'll post a WIP pic tonight).

So far I think it is coming together nicely.

Biggest issue is going to be getting the foam level to build the seating off of.

I bought a hot wire cutter but that thick insulation really doesn't like being cut. As a result I'm thinking of building the raised seating out of coffee stirrers, but that is going to take ages to do.

Only other option is to go for a semi-derelict look; which might work as it is a northern arena. Maybe the where the Romans have been pushed back and the Gladiators still compete for the local Pictish hordes.

Any way comments and critique welcomed.

This is looking great! I can't wait to see more. I'm pretty pumped to get started on my own arena, I'll have to do some sketching.

Very nice work - your attention to detail is evident. Are you planning to leave one side (opposite the beast gate) open? Or will the arena be enclosed? Or modular? I also like the fact that the inside floor of the arena is raised, makes it easier to reach in and move minis. I may have to borrow your coffee stirrer gate style as well. Great stuff, looking forward to seeing more!

Halon - I plan to leave one side open so that it makes play easier. I did think of total enclosure but with the pillars and seating in place I was concerned that it might be too busy for play.

Also you can get an arena floors eye view of the minis. :)

Indeed - the pictures look great, and I see what you mean about access to the arena floor. Well done!

Thanks guys.

Also another advantage of the missing side is that the layout will fit on a 4'x2' (1220x610mm) sheet of 6mm MDF. ;)
