Here's my base construction for my legio13 arena. I'd love some feedback before I go any further. What do you guys think? Too much? Too little? I'm thinking about spikes on the ring wall in spots.

Looks very cool (and those styrofoam bricks must've been a bitch to cut and arrange).

Only suggestion would be to base all the stone arches individually to allow for more customizability. Making them fixed would make them sturdier but might get boring after a while.

Looks cool, I'm sure Gaius would feel right at home!

Honestly, imho, that's about just the right amount of terrain for my personal taste.

The placeability of the terrain is what has me stuck right now. I want the floor to be a bit uneven and heaved, and I want the terrain to look seamless. So if I make the pillars moveable, they will look tipsy and uneven when you put them down. If I glue them in place an form the ground to them, they are unchanging.

Maybe slots for them to go, that can be covered by turf when not needed? Hmmm

I like the concept, my only suggestion would be to have a collapsed arch.

I can also see what the otehrs mean by basing the terrain. I've gone for fixed terrain too and so long as you have decent access for movement I think it is better in th elong run as it wont get knocked about during play.

Might I also make a suggestion on a house rule for that arena?

Create a house rule for FIRE.

You could have a large fire in the middle that you treat as a Pit and and create movable terrain by creating a few smaller fires that inflict damage similar to the Spike walls.

I'd say don't treat fire as a pit. Treat it as a hazard which may spread. What crowd would not love to see an axe wielding berzerker charge through the flames, his hair and his bear blazing, as is his fur cloak, as he makes that last desparate assault, determined to take his foe down with him :).

Ok you could build in a clause for Bezerkers, call one last flaming frenzy.

But I still think that a huge funeral/wickerman/bonfire is a fatality and not something that a normal Gladiator would jump through and continue fighting with a slight smell of burnt hair about them.

Because even in those days fire and water were the two biggest fears to a mortal man. The risk of infection and death was so high that even a minor burn could be a life threatening.

If you do want to try that you could add the tactic I'm planning on using for Trap doors over Pits which would be to roll a die and on 1 or 6 (or odds vs evens if you want less fatalities) the Gladiator moves over the terrain and lands on the other side. In the case of fire I would also remove a couple of points Vitality as leaping through flame would definitely singe your Vitals. ;)

EDIT: I've opened a thread in the Rules\Suggestion and Discussion on Addirtional Terrain Rules to prevent hijacking this arena thread.

The arena looks awesome... Can't tell in the pic from my phone, but are the wall stones "distressed?" They look a bit crisp, which may seem odd for a Stonehenge type arena when you paint it up.

Otherwise, awesome!

Here's an update! Got it all primed (if you're gonna prime styro, use the brush on kind) the sand won't be sand in the end, it'll be dirt and grass. I kept it all modular, found some cool ass trees to use there too. Wicker man? Heck yes!
I ha thought about skeletons in there but I like to think Druids are a tidy lot.

The stones will look plenty distressed once I'm done. I've got a process, and for it all to live thru the distressing it needs a thick coat of primer.

It looks nice. Have you included doors to your arena or do you intend to add movable ladders/stairs?
