Has Septimus been painted yet? Nero looks awesome. :)

I really really like this particular aspect of Arena Rex - the fact that gladiators can mount and dismount from beasts. Magnetizing, or something equivalent, seems pretty much obligatory for these figures, the rider being removable is surely essential.

I really look forward to getting my first mounted model, hopefully in a week or so. Magnetizing is going to be so much fun.

Has anyone other than Gomez and Dave done this? More stories and pictures would be great.

The only alternative I can see to magnets is a tab and slot solution - basically having a big hole drilled into the beast's back, and a tab, probably brass rod or a toothpick, set in between the legs of the rider. That should also work, but has the problem that the beast will have a hole in its back. Might be possible to craft a plug for it to hide the hole - but at that point, magnets seem easier.

I totally hear you about Sereqet's legs, btw. I look at those and see a big problem. I'm planning to rebuild mine quite extensively.

Yep Septimus has been painted, I'm just very bad at updating photos.

I'll update with better photos in a couple of days.

Sereqet is still unpainted, but I have completed a few Ludus Magnus models.
Haven't worked out how I want to paint the scorpion yet.

OK here's my WIP magnetizing of Sereqet and Zahra

I used 1/16" diameter N52 magnets because they were the smallest I could find. I thought about putting magnets on both the scorpion and Zahra's legs but I was afraid her leg might be too thin, so instead I used longer magnets on Sereqet's body and just metal pin heads on her legs drilled to a very shallow death. I'm not too concerned about covering up the pinheads since the only time I'll use Zahra this way is while she is mounted and the pins heads will be covered.
I will cover the magnets in Sereqet, but probably only with a thin layer of primer and paint since I think they will be hard to see once it's all painted anyway.
The connection isn't super strong, but it's enough to hold Zahra upside down.

Looking good RidiQles. Loving the way the Zahra looks.

I ended up going for a more central magnet and greenstuffing the plate back after.

I've decided that this has become the general "about magnetizing arena rex mount+rider models" thread, so I'm going to post my Caho-Ta photos here too. After all, Nero and Sereqet were the only mounts in the game when the thread was started. ;)

Hroka is holding on to her mount in two places - with her legs, and her hand grabbing the mane. Originally I was just going to put a magnet between her legs and in the middle of the horse, but it quickly turned out that her hand, when not glued on, is never going to actually align perfectly with the horse that way. It's just going to hang in the air near the horse. So the only solution I could see was to also add a magnet to Hroka's hand and Caho-Ta's neck.

Finally, I added a rope and magnet so I can add a magnetized chain to the horse when I want to use it as a chained-up hazard. So in the end my Caho-Ta now has three magnets in her, as indicated below with red circles.
