Forgive me if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find a topic about it.

So, we know that Cato can't be assisted as per his rules. However, what happens when you decide to let Cato do the assisting? He'd add [star] to the defense roll, but that star has no value. I'd just assume put it at "1", since it's a special symbol, so he'd add one die. Or would it be 0?

I'm picking up Cato to use with my Magnus cohort (or for any other weird ass cohort, because he's Cato, and he does that).

The Inscrutable rule says "This model may not assist or be assisted" as far as I can tell...

His card doesn't say anything about assisting and I didn't see anything in the errata. did I miss something?

Really? I looked at my card last night, and it seems to be there just fine. He has a rule called Inscrutable. It explains that he has a weird defense stat. And the last sentence says that he can neither assist nor be assisted.

The last sentence seems to be included because the base rules assume that everyone has a fixed defense stat. Since Cato does not have a fixed defense stat, he cannot really meaningfully do an assist, because you cannot add "undefined" to a fixed number. He could theoretically be assisted by someone else who does have a fixed defense stat. But they decided to just shut everything down it seems by making a rule that Cato cannot interact with assists at all, neither as giver nor receiver.

The rule you're thinking of is Adaptable, and as it says on the AR webstore site, "This model may not be assisted". I get that, but that's all it says. It doesn't say anything about him doing any assisting and whether he can or not, as far as the store site is concerned.

Oh, sorry. :) You are right, I mean Adaptable.

And there seems to be two different versions of the card out there, then. There is the one on the webstore, where I can see you are absolutely right - it only says cannot be assisted. And then there is the card I got with the model, that says cannot assist or be assisted. Picture below.

Confusing! Especially since both cards say version 1.0.

Cool. I was wondering if the website contained a misprint. Thanks for the photo.

Well, we don't know which card is correct. I do assume it's the one that answers the question - but we don't know. Maybe both cards are wrong and the rule is only supposed to be that he cannot assist.

I'd assume the one where he can't assist would be correct just because it seems like the one with the least rules headache haha
