And I'm sure you all, like me, have been introducing the game to your friends. How do you find people take to the rules? are there any particular sticking points? Maybe we can work together to come up with easier ways to explain things, if there are.

For the most part, I haven't had any troubles, but the friends I've introduced to the game so far are very, very game-minded, and pick up on rules easily, so my particular pool of trainees is probably not a great cross section of all new players.

In my experience, it is quite a simple game to teach the mechanics.
Usually, I start with the activation order after introducing to miniature gaming if necessary.
Doing this while showing the miniatures and activation tokens helps a lot.
After that, I talk about reachtions and Attack and Defense together with the damage tree.
And that's basically it. That needs 10 minutes of talking, then I usually let them choose two of the available gladiators and do a 2-gladiators per side game for a small introduction, usually only lasting another 20 minutes. If there are two people interested in the game at the same time, they can play against each other with me explaining and being there for questions.
That worked out quite well during the last convention where I ran demo games.
