Answer: Yes!
I have played one three-player game so far, and I thought it worked well.
The "scenario" we used was simple. It was a simple free for all combat, but we tracked victory by saying that every time a member of a cohort defeated an enemy model, they got to take that model as a trophy. The player with the most trophies at the end was the winner.
You could say that the scenario didn't really matter, because we were just playing for individual glory and not about technical victory. But I still like having, just as a formality, some kind of guideline as to whether winning means being the last survivor or the one with most kills.
I think we played with 5 fighters per side in this game. Each of us had 4 gladiators and one riding beast. It took all night, but it was great.
