Another strong theme for Ancient Greece is tragedies/family connections so I could see possibilities for young and old linked models (thinking Odysseus and his son, Icarus and his son etc).
Also I could see some kind of Orator type model with abilities like Sulla has.

Is everyone away for Christmas? :)

One thing I just remembered - in the AR newsletter that was emailed out on Dec 16th, there was a teaser image at the end, saying "See you in MMXVII" with an illustration we haven't seen before. Seems like part of a female gladiator, where she is wielding a short dagger, and has some kind of headdress on that incorporates something akin to round goggles.

Looks cool, and makes me think of Greece. I wonder if this will be a Hellenic gladiator.

Ah, I don't get the newsletter. Do you have a picture of the teaser image?

Oh that is kickass. Thanks. Looks like some sort of assassin-esque character. I wonder if they'll get bonuses to opportunity attacks.

I'v been thinking about this, and an Olympian type of gladiator would be neat. Someone who was great at running, very mobile, highly athletic. Something like a mix of intercept and second wind, or tireless.

Makes sense with an "athlete" kind of theme, potentially.

But I imagine that RRG have a more developed theme in mind than just "greek stuff". Like, they previewed for us that they have a "luck manipulation" kind of theme to their rules in some way. To me, this is suggestive of some sort of Oracle of Delphi idea. Blessings of the Gods with visions of the future.

Which in turn to me suggests to me more of a religious direction, rituals and prayers. Something with a Morituri-like feel, but focused on fortune rather than death.

But of course, every gladiator will be individual with their own distinct character. So there are lots of options. And athletics was a ritual thing in the olden days as I recall, so it makes sense.

I could imagine maybe for a 40mm based gladiator, a "Hephastos the Armourer" kind of model, heavily armoured and with a big hammer. :)

I hope the luck thing doesn't turn in to a feast or famine type deal.

Adding character is awesome. Making the whole thing not work because of dice rolls is not awesome.

I can hear what you're saying about "feast or famine". I would imagine though, with luck manipulation, it makes things more stable, perhaps centering on rerolls; forcing your opponent to do it, or giving your own models do-overs.

I'm interested in seeing the type of balancing RRG will do to keep luck manipulation from spiraling out of control.
