So we have lash with a 5" engagement range, but what about spears and tridents? Any thoughts on perhaps giving them a 2" engagement range instead of the standard 1"? After all, one of perks of such weapons were the extended reach they have over swords...

Thoughts?

Stylistically I agree, though not sure if it would cause significant balance issues...

I think the models with longer range would have to suffer other stat reductions, perhaps armour, vitality or movement?

Alternately, perhaps offering a long range strike at a reduced attack strength as an option, allowing the attacker to decide between pure offence or a more calculating strike.

Still think it would be hard to implement this idea without drastically affecting balance across the entire gladiator range, but something worth trying out during the play test and sharing your conclusions?

Depends on the weapon in question, and where you hold it... example a short stabbing spear held in the middel would have the same sort of reach as the tip of a long sword.

Or to put it another way I quite ok with them having the same melee range

Warmachine has an "engagement" of 0.5" for the models and has a reach characteristic on some models that extends their range to 2". It makes a huge difference in the game, so it would take some real neutering of the other stats to make up for it, In my opinion at least.
