Follow-up: I can see that if both sides have last man standing, and one is wounded and the other isn't, then the wounded one would benefit from running away, to force a tie rather than losing.
You could fix that with a simple rule - when two cohorts are both down to last man standing, a Move action can only be towards the enemy combatant in order to be legal. Moving in a way that would put you further away is not allowed.
Blunt, but seems effective and appropriate to me.
