Ok, good to know. I think I know the answer to this but what if the attack that defeated Ur-Kek exceeds his damage track by say, 5 points and he manages to kill the gladiator with Spite. Then consume essence kicks in, healing him 3 points. My question is does the damage originally dealt to him "carry over" (effectively reducing him to -5 health)? If this were the case consume essence would heal him 3 points but still leaving him at -2 health meaning that he would still be defeated. However, if damage does not carry over then when Ur-Kek heals he would be back in the action.
I know this is a bit of a ramble but this has been a question raised by our group.

Thoughts?

As I see it, damage is resolved like this:

5. Count up how many damage points are connected to the damage tree results that you accessed in your tree, where numbers count as the printed number of points, and special effects count as one point. Apply all those damage points to the defender as one combined package.
6. Subtract the defender's ARM rating from the damage package. If the result after subtraction is zero or less, the attack causes no damage.
7. The defender loses as many Vitality points as the damage points left over after ARM subtraction. Damage points exceeding the amount of remaining Vitality points of the defender are lost.
8. Trigger and resolve all the special Vitality Track effects triggered when damage was applied to the defender’s Vitality track, such as Disengage (when damage from enemy only), Second Wind, Morituri skull effects, etc.
9. If the defender has no Vitality points left, it is defeated. Trigger and resolve any effects that trigger on a model being defeated, such as Undying or Consume Essence. This may cause the defeated model to regain Vitality and thus recover from the intial defeat and remain on the table.
10. If the defender has no Vitality points left, it is fully defeated and is removed from the table.

According to this, any attack damage that exceeds the amount of vitality points that the defender has left is lost at step 7. Then Spite kicks in at step 8. So Ur-kek stays around.

That's just how I interpret the rules.

No problem! It can be a bit tricky sometimes, that's why I made the step by step guide for myself that I copied this from. :)

I dont like this rule at all. The first time I had this come up he killed a model and rejuvenated. Overpowered.

Youre wrong dude.....a botched roll with my defense and a perfect roll on him and he took me down 3/4 of my damage tree and killed me in almost one roll. How is that balanced?

Wait wait wait
You said you rolled badly and your opponent rolled really well and you died and for that it's unbalanced?
