So does the free push result from attacking an exausted model count as damage from the damage tree, therefore being reduced by armor?

Yes, the special push due to attackinng someone in the Exhausted state is defined as being part of the damage tree by having the [push]

symbol (PDF pg 10) and is incorporated into the damage tree.
In another thread, RRG stated that as a general rule damage caused by damage tree symbols [push]

, etc. is reduced by armor, whereas damage described in text "...suffers 3 damage" is applied directly.
