 Post subject: Equal cohorts?

Hey,

I'm just starting Arena Rex, and I have a question about where, under game types, it says to bring "cohorts of equal value". How am I supposed to determine balance? There are no points values, so does it go by equal number of models and base sizes, or is there something I'm missing...?

Hej, don't have the rules here right now.
But building a force is as follows:
Each character card you use, costs one point. So in the beginning you usually agree upon a game size (typical value being 5 points, though 3 also works really well for a quick game).
There are some types of gladiators or modells that have two stages (Nero being one for example). Since you have two character cards (one for each stage), he is worth two points, though I think you can also only buy one stage, but I am not sure about the last statement.

From what I understand that is correct. The game is designed to be balanced by model count, with some models counting as two. Although it isn't a traditional point value system it tends to balance out as the system is generally streamlined where everyone has access to the general abilities that lead to victory, and you can field any gladiator together.

This is correct. Gladiators normally count as a single combatant, staged models may count for more.

Yeah, it may seem like the game has no points values, but it mainly seems that way when you come from other games where each model/card is assigned a numeric points value. Here, 1 card = 1 point. So a model with one card is worth one point, a model with two cards is worth two points, and so on. Very elegant.
