The Momentum ability that lets him move 2" for a follow up seems great for sure. I just don't see the Reversal thing as doing much.

Other than just being good at pushing, Micon seems to be all about the Atlas Throw, which is an awesome D3" shift in any direction. But why is it better to start with the throw rather than finish with it?

As I said: Separating enemies after pushing a rider off a mount.

Couldn't you also do that by pushing first and throwing at the end?

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just clearly a dumbo who doesn't understand...

I think due to the base size of some of the mounts, it may be impossible to push a rider off and then follow up close enough to continue pushing. In those case it may be advantageous to throw them first and place them somewhere you can still follow up to.

Ahhh. I think you're right, thanks! I get it now. As per the illustration on page 14 of the online rulebook, when Sven pushes Septimus off Nero, Septimus ends up on the opposite side of the 60mm base and is then pushed 1" away. At a glance, Sven would have to make a follow-up move of 3"-4" to be able to continue to push Septimus, which he can't. But if it was Micon, I presume Septimus would still be dismounted on the opposite side of Nero, but Micon would be able to throw him D3" towards himself instead of away from him. Which would let him move up close and keep pushing.

It took some doing, but I got there in the end.

But that's still a really niche application of Reversal. :D

It is maybe not the most common opportunity, but still one of the main reasons reversal exists. :D

It also helps in the instance that you are closer to the pit behind you than in front of you, so you can sometimes use Micon to isolate models that rely on support or bait people closer to pits than they should be.

Thanks! OK, I think I'm starting to get it. The main point of the Atlas Throw is that you can use it to fling your opponent in any direction, not just directly away from you. So starting with the throw makes you able to start the chain of pushes in any direction, whereas if you end with the throw, you don't get to take advantage of the direction control to the same extent.

But we all still agree that Reversal only really makes a difference if you get 5 successes, right?

Yes, but that is something Ludus Magnus gladiators benefit from anyway.
