I use PVA glue to attach fine sand stolen from a local playground. Works for me. But there are countless options...

Ohhh. I use GW classic chaos black spray. It's all I've ever used, so I'm afraid to try something else...

cool! I am afraid the black base will be to dark so I was going with Armoury Grey Primer

https://www.miniaturemarket.com/arygg-sp2.html

I'm hoping it works well on resin

How did you get on with the Armoury stuff? I've only ever had bad experiences with that brand. I find it very finicky with the humidity we get in the warmer months here.

I use Duplicolor Sandable Primer matt black or white which I get from the auto store, I swear by the stuff!

I've understood the sandable auto primer is a little thick and can obscure details, but, if you have good results with it, then keep using it.

I've almost always used the cheapest can of flat black I can find from Wal-Mart.

Vallejo spray-on airbrush primer is the best, though, that I've ever used.

I use Krylon ColorMaster white primer from Hobby Lobby or Michael's (if you're in the States). Lots of light coats rather than a single heavy one. Also use an old toothbrush to knock off any fuzz before painting - all works like a charm IMO.

It has worked well up until this weekend when priming tanks for Flames of war it kind of "pebbled" leaving a very rough surface
