Hey everyone! First post!
Was wowed by the AR booth at GC and picked up a number of figures and itching to paint them. I had a question about basing them before proceeding. Looking to give a slight bit of texture to the minis rather than just applying a layer of fine ballast directly to the base. I've worked on other figures before and had a bit more freedom to add some texture to the bases but on my AR figs I don't want to overdo things. I've seen some awesome stuff here on these forums and thought I would get some suggestions from the community. Thanks in advance! :D

Yeah, does anyone know how to replicated the bases as seen on the RRG figures? They look sweet.

I really like the bases here: viewtopic.php?p=40458#p40458

It's a very well done job. Myself I used sand to base the miniatures on.

Liquitex makes a "stucco" textured gel that Nick and I used for the demo models (dont get fooled by "natural sand"). I am not sure what Ben does for the studio models, but I will ask!

At the end of this tutorial, gentleben explains how he achieved the "footsteps in sand" look for the official figures' bases. I opted for simple glue and sand, but his technique looks pretty straightforward.

For my sand bases, I've been using two layers of the GW sand-textured paint, and drybrushing up from there. You can see the result in my thread, if you like.
