Post subject:  Gaius Pallidus Proxy-Opinions?

I have been considering adding Gaius Pallidus to my Cohort, as I really like his backstory, his stats, and his healing ability is incredibly useful. That being said, I'm not a fan of his official model, specifically the tree roots. I have considered "trimming" the official model, however I don't think I quite have the sculpting skills to make it look like the quality of the rest of the models in the cohort. So I'm curious to know what people's opinion would be regarding someone using another company's model as a proxy? (Heresy, I know.) Specifically Knutr, from the Norse line by Mierce Minatures.
( http://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php? ... ld_101_000 )

I personally really like this model, as he has a similar stance to the official Gaius Pallidus model, along with the giant axe. However this model is free of the roots, and has a much more Norse aesthetic, to suit my OCD, and the rest of my very Norse Zephryi.

Can you see this being an issue?

(I apologize if it is against forum rules to post a link to another company, if so please remove)

Well, that model looks beautiful for sure, and definitely fits in terms of style and look.

My only concern is size. If that really is a 30mm base he is on in that photo, then the model must be tiny, smaller than most AR models. And Gaius Pallidus is huge, and meant to be huge, on a 40mm base.

Can't tell for sure without having some measurements on the guy. I feel like to fill out a 40mm base, he should be somewhere between 40mm and 45mm tall. (For reference, Viatrix is almost 40mm tall.)

Good point on the height. I would guess that Knutr is likely a fair bit shorter than Gaius, as I have heard his mini is really big (haven't seen it first hand). A second option would be this guy, ( http://mierce-miniatures.com/index.php? ... cf_101_000 )

I know he is much bigger, as I have seen comparisons with this figure before. (The character is 7 ft tall!) However, I'm not as big a fan of the pose on this guy, but he does share some similarities to Gaius.

From looking at the base, yeah, this guy looks more like he is the right size. The question is just whether you care about that or not. If it doesn't bother you to have a model on a 40mm base that is smaller than your other models on 30mm bases, then go with the first one. :)

I personally think that Gaius' tree growths look awesome, and that they both define his rules (he grows like a tree, that's why he has druidic healing powers) and make him look like a satyr with horns, which gives him that natural and savage celtic feel. But to each their own.

I do agree, that the tree growth look certainly does define him as a character. It's possible the model would grow on me as well, as I haven't seen it in person. Just something about the right shoulder specifically, that disagrees with me. But as you said to each their own. In any event, pondering hypothetical future proxies may be a bit premature, considering Hagal is next on my to-do list, and he isn't even ordered yet. haha.

Hagal is the ultimate beefy viking for sure. :)

Although I like his real model, I think this proxy looks awesome!!
