Post subject:  Characters' gladiator type

Just wondering what type of gladiators the characters represent. Here's my thoughts:

Micon - Cestus
Hermes - Thraex
Otho - Murmillo
Marcus Furius - Retarius
Infelix -Dimachaerus
Ban-Luca and Aquila - Provocator
Urbicus - Secutor
Iason - Hoplomachus
Sven and Septimus - Bestiarius

Regarding Ban-Luca and Aquila, I'm going on the fact that Ban-Luca has a breastplate, which only Provocators had, while Aquila seems to be dressed in the military fashion which Provocators were know to do too. Neither actually represent a fully accurate Provcator, but I think they've taken elements from it. I don't think any models are actually Bestarius, but Sven is a hunter and Septimus rides a bull which I think sounds about right for a Bestarius in a mythic age (Bjarrhvit could also be one).

Everyone else doesn't seem to fully belong to any specific type.

Anyway, I'm sure many of you have a better knowledge in this area than I =]

Aside from not using the Sica, I'd put Viatrix down as a Thraex, too.
Ban-Luca could possibly be seen as a Crupellarii
Urien might be a Parmularius
I'd peg Otho as a Samnite, personally

that's all I've got for right now!

Woo, I recently got a book about this stuff. :)

I would agree that Otho seems like a Mirmillo to me. Allegedly it means "moray eel" and they were considered to be the fish of the arena, often matched with the Retiarius as the fisherman with his net. And Otho has the two fish on his shield, just like the Mirmillo in my book. ;)

It seems like Marcus is the only true Retiarius in the game, because one of their features was that they were the only ones of the major gladiator categories to not wear a helmet. But it seems fair to me to say that all the people with a trident and net are a type of Retiarius. Which would then include Mago and, as far as I can tell, Leika.

A Laquearius apparently fought with a lasso or long rope to ensnare opponents - sounds a little like the style of Zahra to me. Even though Zahra's combo of whip and halberd doesn't seem like it would work in real life. :)

But it makes sense that mostly Ludus Magnus gladiators match up with historical categories, since they are the most historically and orthodoxy based school.
